La. Tech outnumbers Lady Pilots
August 23, 2011SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots season opener was not what they had hoped for as the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech University won the game by a final score of 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at The Swamp. Tech played a total of 23 players in the game while the Lady Pilots played all 13 that were eligible.
LSUS (0-1) still has six players still waiting to get approved to play from the NAIA Eligibility Center. Those six will be eligible but is just a question of how soon their paperwork gets reviewed by the new clearing house.
"It is frustrating that those six could not have played today, but it is what it is," said LSUS head coach Mike Aguilar. "Things would have been a lot different today had we had them; not to take anything away from those that played; it just would have been nice to give them a break."
La. Tech (1-1-1) pounded the ball toward the net the entire game as they took a total of 34 shots with 16 going on goal. Emily Brennan led the team with six shots and also led the team in scoring with two goals. The Techsters split time in net with three different keepers. Caitlin Updike played the entire first half while Cat Buchanan made the lone save.
The Lady Pilots only managed one shot on goal the entire game by Kim Phelps. Shay Wells played all 90 minutes in goal and made 9 saves for LSUS.
The next game for the Lady Pilots will be on Friday, August 26, at 1 p.m. at The Swamp.
