May 05, 2006
Shreveport, LA---The University of Mobile Rams senior first baseman Lance Howard led the Rams to a 15-5 victory over the Spring Hill College Badgers with a 4-5 performance at the plate which included a solo homerun, four runs scored, and four RBI. The win kept the Rams Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship hopes alive, while knocking the Badgers to 1-1 in the tournament.
Lance Howard doubled and scored in the 1st inning and belted a solo homerun in the 3rd stretching the Rams early lead to 3-1.
The Badgers responded with a two out rally in the bottom of the 3rd inning which was sparked by an infield single by Sam Stewart which was followed by an RBI double to left-center field by Jeremy Koen. Matt Parker singled to center field to score Koen which tied the game at 3-3.
Badgers starter Josh Coleman walked Howard with two out in the top of the 5th and promptly scored on an RBI double to right-center field by Cooper. Cooper stole third base which enabled him to score on an infield single by Justin Rosen, and a wild throw by Coleman allowed Rosen to advance all the way to third base. Rosen scored on the next pitch which found its way to the back stop, stretching the Rams lead to 6-3.
Parker belted a two run homerun off Rams starter Jason Ragan to cut the lead to 6-5. The Rams however found the answer for Coleman as they began the top of the 6th with three consecutive hits including a solo homerun by catcher Ryan Liebe. Michael Boucher took the mound in relief, and was greeted by an RBI single off the bat of Howard. Boucher struggled to find the zone and walked Rosen and Tyler Burns with the bases loaded which capped the Rams six run inning, stretching their lead to 12-5.
The Rams added three more runs in the 9th as they cruised to a 15-5 victory. Ragan tossed a complete game scattering 13 hits and one walk while allowing five runs and collected three strikeouts. Howard finished 4-5 with a game high four RBI, while Cooper and Liebe each added three hits and two RBI a piece.
Coleman was tagged with the loss after allowing 12 run (nine earned) through 5.0 innings. Parker finished 4-4 with four RBI and a run scored while Koen was 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Badgers.
