GCAC names Jamon Morris Player of the Week

November 15, 2006

Shreveport, LA---Jamon Morris, a 6’5 junior transfer from Chicago, IL has made an immediate impact on the court for the LSUS Men’s Basketball program. The Lon Morris Junior College transfer poured in 18-points and collected 14-rebounds to lead the Pilots to an 81-79 home opening win at The Dock last Tuesday against Wiley College, and has been recognized as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts.

Morris has been brought in to fill the absence of GCAC All-Conference Center, Jeremy Johnston, and 6’8 forward Shadrach Roome from the 2006 National Tournament team. Through for games this season, Morris is averaging 10-points and eight rebounds, and has proved he can be a force in the middle for the Pilots.

“A big question coming into this season was whether or not we could find a replacement for Johnston and Roome. So far this season Morris has been that guy. He plays big under the basket and has the ability to score from the post. We look for big things from Jamon throughout this season, and if he continues to work hard and bring a good attitude everyday, he will have a very successful two years here at LSUS,” commented Pilots Head Coach Chad McDowell.

At 4-0 this season, the Pilots will face their toughest test of their non-conference schedule this upcoming weekend as they will take on two 2006 NAIA National Tournament teams. Friday night they will square off against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions. Then the Pilots will take on the defending 2006 NAIA National Champion Texas Wesleyan University Rams.
