GCAC kicks off 2006 tournament with All-Conference Banquet
May 02, 2006
Shreveport, LA---The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference kicked off the 2006 GCAC Tournament with the All-Conference Banquet which was hosted at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. The night was highlighted by the presentation of the GCAC Regular Season Championship Trophy to the Belhaven College Blazers; the announcement of the 1st and 2nd All-GCAC Conference Teams; and most importantly, the recognition of the 2006 GCAC senior class.
“You saw some special things happen in that banquet hall tonight,” said LSUS Athletic Director Doug Robinson. “It is so rewarding to see young men who are in competition with one another sit back, shake hands, and reflect on the past seasons events. You saw the mutual respect each team had for one another by the look in their eyes when the All-Conference teams and the seniors were recognized in front of their peers.”
Tuesday’s banquet focused on theme that while individual awards and accolades are very special, it is the relationships with teammates, coaches, and even opponents that make athletics so special.
“Tonight was not just about awards and championships; it was about reflecting on the efforts that these young athletes put forth everyday of their lives trying to become a champion, and realizing that college athletics does not go on for ever, but the relationships they build along the way do,” commented master of ceremonies Chad McDowell.
LSUS Pilots Head Coach Rocke Musgraves was very proud to have the privilege to announce the 2006 GCAC All-Conference teams. “What a great night and honor to be able to shake the hands of not just my own players, but the other players throughout the conference who have had such great seasons, and who deserved to be recognized in front of their peers. I think that tonight was very special and years down the road, win or lose, everyone here this week will take home memories that last a lifetime,” concluded Musgraves.
