Freshmen Vaughan, Salvucci Lead LSUS to Victory

October 09, 2008

Shreveport, La. – Freshman Dorrie Vaughan knocked in a rebound off her own missed shot, and fellow classmate Amber Salvucci proved to be the difference in goal for LSUS on Thursday afternoon, as the Lady Pilots picked up a big 1-0 conference victory over the Mobile Lady Rams at The Swamp.

Vaughan’s goal at the 64:32 mark in the second half was all the scoring LSUS would need, as Salvucci shut out the Lady Rams with seven saves in the contest.

Mobile was the aggressor for much of the afternoon, as the visitors out shot the home team, 17-10, for the game.  Mobile’s tough, physical defense (15 fouls, one yellow card) caused the Lady Pilots some trouble throughout the first half and into the early portions of the second half.  However, the Lady Pilots maintained their composure and seemed to wear down a Mobile squad that essentially played just 12 players.

With the win, the Lady Pilots improved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.  LSUS will return to action next Thursday when they travel to Mobile to take on the Lady Rams in a re-match.
