Former Lady Pilot Returns to LSUS

September 05, 2008

Shreveport, La. – Louisiana State University in Shreveport has hired Marcia Spyhalski as its new assistant women’s basketball coach, according to athletics director Doug Robinson.

Spyhalski, a LSUS graduate and former letter winner, comes to LSUS after spending the last two years as a manager of a Nike Factory store in Texas.  She replaces Toni Martinez who recently accepted the head girl’s coaching position at C.E. Byrd High School.

“I am very excited to have Marcia back in the program in a coaching capacity,” said LSUS head coach Ronnie Howell.  “She has played in this league and knows what it will take for us to compete for championships in the GCAC.”

During her playing career at LSUS (2003-2006), Spyhalski posted career averages of five points and five rebounds.  Spyhalski, known on the court for her toughness and leadership abilities, was named the Lady Pilots team captain during her final two seasons.

“Marcia was an extremely hard worker as a player, and I am sure she will be the same type coach,” added Howell.  “Our current players should benefit tremendously from her in a positive way.”

Spyhalski received a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in General Studies from LSUS in May 2006.
