Flowers' Late Basket Lifts LSUS Over Xavier

New Orleans, La.- LSUS junior guard Tish Flowers connected on a layup with 14 seconds remaining to lift the No. 21 Lady Pilots to a 48-45 victory of the Xavier Gold Nuggets on Saturday night at The Barn.

After Flowers made basket gave the Lady Pilots a two-point lead, the LSUS defense picked up a huge defensive stop on Xavier's final possession to seal the win.

Flowers finished with a game-high 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Valerie Huizar and Whitney Hollins scored 13 and 12 points respectively.  Flowers, Huizar and Hollins combined to make 14 of the Lady Pilots' 18 made field goals in the contest.

However, the LSUS defense once again propelled the Lady Pilots to another victory, holding the Gold Nuggets to just 38% from the field and just 20% from the three-point line.

With with win, LSUS snapped Xavier's 27-game home winning streak.  Xavier had won 75 of their last 77 games at The Barn, while only losing a total of 8 games at The Barn since the 1996-97 season.

LSUS (20-2, 10-1) remains in sole possession of first place in the GCAC with tonight's win, and they will face Dillard University on Monday night in New Orleans.
