Evans Nets Game-Winner in Home Opener
August 30, 2008
Shreveport, La. – LSUS Senior Shaderia Evans nailed a free kick from 35 yards out at the 76:39 mark in the second half to propel the Lady Pilots to a 1-0 victory in their home opener at “The Swamp.”
Oklahoma City controlled the ball for most of the contest, out shooting the home team 19-4 in the game. However, LSUS freshman goalkeeper Amber Salvucci kept the Lady Stars off of the scoreboard with seven saves on the afternoon.
The Lady Pilots offense struggled to find any rhythm throughout the first sixty minutes of action, until Michelle Williamson snuck behind the Oklahoma City defense and missed a one-on-one opportunity, as the Lady Stars goalie came up with a big save.
LSUS continued to put pressure on the OCU defense over the next 15 minutes of play before Evans converted on the free kick for the game winner.
LSUS (2-1) will take on Oklahoma Christian University on the second day of the LSUS Invitational, Monday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. at “The Swamp.”
