Davis named RRAC Player of the Week

WACO, Texas -- Brandon Davis of LSU Shreveport and Robert Martinez of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) earned a share of the Red River Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award for the dates of Jan. 21-27. This is the 11th award of the 2012-13 season and for Davis it's his third selection.
Davis, a junior forward from Pomona, Calif., achieved three double-doubles in a 3-0 week for the Pilots. He scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 98-73 victory over Bacone College (Okla.) before hauling in 19 rebounds to upstage the University of St. Thomas (Texas). Davis also racked up 19 points and 16 boards to sink Paul Quinn College (Texas), 95-63. For the week, he posted 15 assists and made 23-of-44 field goal attempts (52.3%). The Pilots improved to 10-3 in conference play and 15-4 on the season.
Martinez, a senior guard from Houston, led the Saints to their sixth consecutive victory and second place in the conference. He averaged 26.5 points and 7.5 assists per game in two victories. Against Texas Wesleyan University, Martinez totaled 36 points on nine three-pointers to guide OLLU to a 103-81 win. He also scored 17 points to pace a 90-84 triumph over PQC. In the two games, Martinez sank 16-of-23 shots from the field including 11-of-17 from three point range. The Saints are now 11-3 in the RRAC and 15-7 overall.
Oscar Griffin of Texas Wesleyan University and Dominique Rambo of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas) were additional nominees.
