Cajuns Cruise Past Lady Pilots

December 09, 2007
Lafayette, La. - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns cruised to a 63-40 victory over LSU-Shreveport on Sunday afternoon at Earl K. Long Gym.

The Cajuns won the game with defense, holding LSU-Shreveport scoreless for an 8:11 span of the first half en route to a 15-point lead at the break.  A lay-up by Janai Sells with 37 seconds left in the half ended the 8-minute drought for the Lady Pilots.

The Lady Pilots shot only 24 percent in the opening stanza, making just seven field goals before the half.

Louisiana breezed through the second half as tough Cajuns defense held LSUS to just 22 percent shooting.  The UL lead never dipped below 13 points in the final 20 minutes.

"Defensively, we played extremely well by holding a NCAA Division 1 team that played in the NCAA Tournament last season to just 63 points," said LSUS head coach Ronnie Howell.  "We just need to do a much better job of putting the ball in the basket and knocking down open shots."

Sells led the Lady Pilots with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Quan Joseph posted double-digit rebounds for the third consecutive game with 11 boards.

The Lady Pilots will return home to host Paul Quinn on Friday night in the Lady Pilots Classic.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 P.M. at "The Dock."
