Busy week in LSUS Athletics

February 01, 2006

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots soccer team continues to welcome new members to the athletics family; men’s and women’s basketball are in full swing and play host to conference rival University of Mobile this Saturday night at The Dock; and LSUS baseball will return to Pilot Field for the first time since the Region XIII Tournament last May this Thursday night as they begin their quest for an NAIA National Championship.

This past week Coach Jones has announced the signing of two very special athletes in Alicia Marshall and Rachel Alexander. The 2006 roster is almost complete and we are very excited for the Lady Pilots upcoming 2006 season.

The LSUS Lady Pilots Basketball team got off to a hot start at 10-4 on the year, but have been on the losing end of their past four contests. However, the Lady Pilots are just two games back of 3rd overall in the GCAC standings with five conference games remaining. The second half of the season will determine the conference tournament seedings which has the highest seeded team hosting each play-off round. If the Lady Pilots could finish in the top four overall, they would host the first round of the GCAC Tournament at The Dock, Wednesday, March 1st.

In men’s basketball action, the 2006 LSUS Pilots are looking to repeat as the GCAC Champions and are currently just one game out of top spot in conference play behind the Spring Hill College Badgers. The Pilots are currently in a deadlock for second place with conference foe University of Mobile at 6-2. The two teams will square off Saturday night at The Dock which will break that tie, and make it very tough for the loser to gain enough ground to capture the 2006 GCAC Title.

And last but not least, the LSUS Pilots baseball team returns to action tomorrow night at Pilot Field as they will play host to the preseason No. 9 Lubbock Christian Chaps at 6:30pm. The Chaps compiled an overall record of 53-15 last season and will prove to be a very tough test for the Pilots to begin the 2006 season.

LSUS enters the season as the preseason ranked No. 14 team in the NAIA after compiling a 42-20 overall record last year before bowing out in the Region XIII Championship to Lee University. The two teams will square off in a three game showdown starting with game one Thursday night, followed by game two Friday night at 6:30pm, and game three will begin Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.

We would like to welcome everyone to come out and support the Blue and Gold in what is truly an exiting week for LSUS Athletics. For further information about any of our athletic teams, please visit www.lsus.edu/athletics, or contact Sports Information Director, Al Cantwell at sports@pilot.lsus.edu.
