Brouillette collects more honors after final game
June 07, 2011
SHREVEPORT, La. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2011 NAIA Baseball All-Americans; LSU Shreveport's catcher Andrew Brouillette was selected by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association (BCA) All-America Selection Committee to the Honorable Mention Team. In addition, the Pilot catcher was also chosen by the Games Committee at the 2011 Avista-NAIA World Series as the Hank Burbridge Champions of Character Player Award. Brouillette was one of nine up for the award as each team in the World Series had a representative. The World Series Tournament Committee selected Brouillette as the Champions of Character Player Award because they felt that he was the best choice in embracing the five core values that the NAIA embraces as a Champion of Character: INTEGRITY-Positive internal traits that guide behavior; RESPECT-Treating others the way you want to be treated; RESPONSIBILITY-The social force that binds the individual to the good of the team; SPORTSMANSHIP-Following the rules, spirit and etiquette of athletic competition; and SERANT LEADERSHIP-Serving the greater good.
"Brouillette is the perfect fit for this award. He has been a pleasure to coach throughout the past four years; he is a coach's dream for a student athlete. You never have to wonder if he was going to get his work done in the class room," said LSUS head coach Rocke Musgraves.
Brouillette graduated cum laude in the spring with a Bachelor's of Science degree. Cum Laude requires a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.50-3.69.
"It is amazing that he maintained his GPA with all of the tough classes that he had to take but what is more impressive is that he never missed a practice," noted Musgraves.
Depending upon how the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft goes this week, Brouillette plans to attend medical school to become a physician.
"He is one of the sharpest young men I have ever met; no matter what he decides to do he will be great at it," added Musgraves.
Brouillette had a fine season and a more than fine career as an LSUS Pilot. This season he posted a .292 batting average with 14 homers and 53 RBI. He holds seven different single season records at LSUS and is in the top five in seven more while he dominates the Pilot career record book holding eight records and placing in the top five in two more.
He was also selected as a NAIA pre-season All-American as well as the First Team All-RRAC and was the gold glove selection in the conference as well.
