BRAVATA'S JERSEY DISPLAYED IN COLLEGE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME

September 02, 2009

LSUS Pilot's sophomore outfielder from Baton Rouge, Brandon Bravata, set the national record for most hit by pitches in a single season during the 2009 season. This summer Bravata’s #23 jersey was shipped to Lubbock, Texas to be displayed at the College Baseball Hall of Fame showcase from the 2009 season.

The 2009 showcase of the collected memorabilia will travel throughout the United States through the course of the year, and then become a permanent fixture in the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

The old record was held by Jamie Tapp of Oklahoma City University whit 34 HBP’s during the 2002 season. Bravata surpassed Tapp with his 35th HBP on April 24, 2009 against the Spring Hill Badgers.

The most HBP’s in a single game for Bravata was three, which he did twice (1/23/09 @ Mobile, 3/21 @ LSUA).During the season, Bravata had a consecutive streaks of 6 games and 5 games of being hit by a pitch.

Brandon Bravata is the first player in LSUS history to have his jersey in any Hall of Fame and hold a national record, but he may not be finished at setting records. Bravata has a career total of 47 HBP’s which is over half way to the current record of 81 HBP’s in a career by Jamie Tapp of OCU 2000-2003.

Bravata needs only 35 more hit by pitches to set the national career records and he still has two seasons left to play. He would have to average 17.5 HBP for the next two seasons to break the record at which he had done just two months into the previous season.
