Blazers Defeat Pilots in Extra Innings

Jackson, Miss. - The Belhaven College Baseball Team (26-11, 14-8) defeated the No. 25 LSUS Pilots (26-10, 17-7) in 12 innings, 4-3, when an Austin Fagan single scored Reg Ott from second base.

LSUS led 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th, before Bryan Bennett rocketed an RBI double to score Blaise King from 2nd base to send the game to extra innings.

Kyle Medley (1-0) picked up the victory for the Blazers, as he pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief for the win.

Pilot starter Victor Hernandez pitched brilliantly in tonight's game, but walked away with a no-decision.  Hernandez threw nine innings, giving up just two earned runs and striking out eight Blazers.

Blaise King had three hits for the Blazers, going 3-for-5 on the night with a double, a steal, a walk and 2 runs scored. Reg Ott also added a  3-for-4 performance, with a double, a RBI and a run scored.

Bryan Stebbings went 3-for-3 in the contest to lead the Pilots, while Jeffrey Garidel was the only only Pilot with multiple hits (2).  Jeff Ledet also homered in the contest for the visitors.

The Blazers and Pilots will resume their GCAC weekend series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
