Belhaven Blanks LSUS in GCAC Tournament

Hattiesburg, Miss. - Belhaven's Craig Westcott fanned 14 Pilot batters as the Blazers blanked LSUS in the second round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament 7-0.       

The Blazers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single off the bat of Craig Dean. Belhaven struck for two more runs in the bottom of the third on a pair of RBI doubles. Westcott helped himself when he drove the ball to the warning track in straight away center field. Timmy Foster followed with a two bagger of his own with a double to deep left center to make the score 3-0 Blazers.

Belhaven tallied a run for the third consecutive inning when they added to their lead with an RBI double by Lake Eiland who has been swinging a hot bat for the Blazers.

Belhaven then tacked on some insurance runs in the eighth when Chanse Cooper tripled home Shawn Diehl to start the inning. The Blazers then put runners on the corners with one out and plated the second run of the inning came home when Mark Gray got in a run down allowing Cooper to score from third. Foster then capped the inning off with a solo home run to left field to putting the Blazers up 7-0.   

Westcott closed the door in the ninth to complete the contest and secure the victory for Belhaven. Westcott held the explosive LSUS offense to four hits and walked just one in route to an 11-3 record on the mound.

Turner Brasher suffered the loss for the Pilots allowing four runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of work.

Foster led the Belhaven offense with two hits and 2 RBI's with one coming on his team-leading 14th homer of the year.

LSUS will face regular season champ and tournament host William Carey in an elimination game at 12:00 PM on Saturday, and the winner of that game will face Belhaven at 7:00 PM Saturday night.
