Pitching Coach

Chris Bertrand

Chris Bertrand is entering his seventh overall year (2005-2012) with the LSUS coaching staff. Bertrand serves as the Pilots Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator and was the Graduate Assistant Coach during the 2005-2006 season, his first in the Pilots program.  Bertrand's responsibilities include working with pitchers, recruiting, scouting reports and game planning, coordinating the Pilots baseball camps and fall league, as well as administrative and fundraising duties.

Under Bertrand's leadership, the Pilots pitching staff has seen improved success, consistently at the top of the GCAC in wins and ERA; highlighted by 2007's 3.83 staff ERA and 2010's 48 wins.  Six LSUS pitchers, including Justin Ennis, Jeff Nadeau, John James, Matt Clayman, Daniel Welch, and Victor Hernandez, have signed professional baseball contracts under Bertrand's watch.  Since taking over as the Pilots recruiting coordinator, the Pilots have a combined four year record of 176-58 (.752), and won 4 GCAC Tournament Championships from 2006-2010.

In the summer of 2010, Bertrand was named Pitching Coach for the expansion Alexandria Aces of the Texas Collegiate League.  He joined Mike Byrnes, his former collegiate head coach and one of his coaching mentors, in leading the transition of the Aces organization from professional baseball into collegiate summer baseball.   Together, they led the Aces to a successful inaugural season, one that saw three Aces (2 pitchers) make the Texas Collegiate League All-Star Game.

Bertrand began his coaching career in the summer of 2005, when he led the GIBKO Wildcats of The Big States League to a 2nd place finish in the AABA World Series.  Bertrand also had tremendous success leading high school select travel teams in the next three consecutive summers.  During the summer of 2006, he led the MVP Muckdogs to a highly successful summer season, which ended in a Final Four appearance in the BEST Baseball World Championships.  The summers of 2007 and 2008 saw Bertrand lead the Gametime Academy Angels to consecutive quarterfinal appearances in the Premier Baseball World Championships.  Those four teams contained numerous collegiate signees and a total of 10 tournament championships.

Bertrand completed his collegiate playing career in 2005 with the Louisiana College Wildcats, under head coach Mike Byrnes.  Bertrand earned First-Team All Conference honors at LC, while also being voted team captain.  Prior to LC, Bertrand played at Bossier Parish Community College from 2001-2003, under current Kansas State University Pitching Coach Sean McCann.  Bertrand was selected to the Region XIV Academic All-Conference Team while at BPCC.

Bertrand graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Marketing from LC in 2005, and he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from LSUS in 2007.

Bertrand is married to the former Lori Quigley of Shreveport.  The two exchanged vows on July 18, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Shreveport. They are the proud parents of Rayleigh and they reside in Shreveport.
