Baseball Team Excels On the Field, In the Classroom
May 26, 2009
Shreveport, La. – The 2009 LSUS baseball team finished their season with an impressive 42-16 overall record, a No. 19 national ranking and another trip to the regional round of the NAIA National Tournament. But even more impressive than the wins on the field was the success of the team in the classroom during the spring semester.
In a semester filled with extensive time demands for practices, games and travel, the 2009 Pilots managed one of their best showings in the classroom in the program’s history. Of the 36 student-athletes on the squad, 26 of them posted individual GPAs of 3.0 or better, while five players recorded a perfect 4.0.
“We are very proud of the effort our guys put forth in the classroom this past semester,” said LSUS Head Coach Rocke Musgraves.” “The spring is usually one of the toughest times for a baseball player to stay focused academically, especially with all of the time demands that are put on them. However, we challenged our players to not only be successful on the field, but in the classroom as well. ”
Fourteen players were also named to the 2009 All-GCAC Honor Roll, surpassing the mark of eleven players making the team in 2008.
In addition to the players making the grade, LSUS student-assistant coach Brent Porche represented the Pilot coaching staff with a 4.0 GPA.
