Baseball Announces Promotion Schedule for 2012

SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport baseball team will begin their 53-game 2012 schedule Friday, February 3rd, as they host the once Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Rival, William Carey Crusaders. The three-game series is set for a first-pitch at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 3, at Pilot Field. The live play-by-play can be heard on the World Wide Web at Teamline.cc all season long. This season at Pilot field the Pilots will honor different departments at LSUS; feeding them a meal at Friday's game and selecting a member from that department to throw out the first pitch on Friday.

The Pilots will welcome former Pilot Kevin Jewell who toed the rubber for LSUS from 2004-2007 and was a part of the first LSUS team to win a regular season conference title back in 2005. Jewell ranks in the top three on the all-time LSUS record list in seven different categories: 2nd in wins (29), 2nd in complete games (19), 2nd in shutouts (4), 2nd in strikeouts (241), 3rd with 71 appearances, 3rd in saves with 6, and 3rd in innings pitched (297.2). Since graduation in 2005, Jewell has been serving our country as an Army Ranger.

CPT Jewell graduated from LSU Shreveport in May of 2007 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.  Upon graduation Kevin joined the Army and moved to FT. Benning, GA, where he attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry.  After completing Officer Candidate School, Kevin attended Airborne School, Basic Officer Leaders Course, Infantry Officer Leaders Course, Stryker Leaders Course, and Ranger School.  After the completion of Ranger School, Kevin was stationed at FT. Richardson, AK based out of Anchorage, AK and was assigned to 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry, 4th Brigade Combat Team.  Kevin deployed to Afghanistan from February 2009 to February 2010; while deployed Kevin served as a Scout Platoon Leader based out of COP Spera, Khowst Province, Afghanistan.  While in the Army Kevin has served as a Scout Platoon Leader, Mortar Platoon Leader, and a Battalion Adjutant.  Most recently Kevin attended Special Forces Assessment and Selection, a three week tryout to earn the opportunity to become a member of the United States Green Berets.  Now selected to attend the JFK Special Warfare Center located at FT. Bragg, NC, Kevin will complete 58 weeks of training in order to become a member of the elite Green Berets.  Kevin's military decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, NATO Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Army Accommodation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation Medal, and his highest decoration the Bronze Star Medal for combat operations while serving in Afghanistan.  Kevin is married to his wife Amanda of four years, who also attended Louisiana State University-Shreveport and is currently completing her Masters in Psychology.

On March 9-10 the Pilots will take on Texas College as they honor the LSUS Professors while welcoming the Admissions Department for the Northwood series on March 16-17. The UT-Brownsville series the Pilots will honor Facility Services while recognizing the Purchasing Department for the April 20-21 series against Texas Wesleyan. Note that all the series will consist of three games with a single game beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday night and a double header to follow on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the exception of the UT-Brownsville series as the double header will be played on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at the original time of 1 p.m.
