Mark Cantrell begins his third season as the Sports Information Director at LSU Shreveport. He was named the school's fourth SID in the summer of 2009 as he brought over 10 years of experience in broadcasting.
His broadcasting career began in 1997 during his sophomore year at Southwood High School when he volunteered to be a public address announcer for Shreveport Dixie Baseball in the summer for their All-Star Tournaments (Sub-District and District). His interest grew for broadcasting as he watched his father, Randy Cantrell, announce baseball games, rodeos, and the occasional auction.
With encouragement from those around him, he continued to apply for and get different positions in the broadcasting industry and continues to broadcast for the LSUS Pilots. Cantrell has broadcast at least one game in each of the four time zones in the U.S.
He is a graduate of Southwood High School in Shreveport where he lettered three years on the varsity baseball team. Cantrell recieved an Associates Degree in Broadcast/Journalism from Bossier Parish Community College in the Spring of 2004 and furthered his education receiving his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Mass Communications from LSU Shreveport in the Spring of 2006.
He is married to the former Jennifer Rigdon of Grand Cane, Louisiana. They are the proud parents of Elizabeth Jane "Lizzy" and reside in Shreveport.
