#4 LSUS Faces Mobile in GCAC Showdown
January 19, 2008MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile men’s basketball team will host #4 LSU-Shreveport Saturday, January 19th at 4:00 pm in a battle of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference unbeatens.
The Rams, who went 5-5 in non-conference action, but have since reeled off 5-straight wins in conference, including a win over #16 Xavier Thursday, will look to take sole possession of first place against the 16-0 LSU-Shreveport Pilots.
If a quick glance at the statistics is any indication, the game should be a close match up between two teams that get it done on both ends of the court.
The Pilots grab an impressive 46 rebounds per contest and rank #8 in the NAIA with a scoring average of 88. Mobile on the other hand, holds opponents to a lowly 41% shooting from the field and rank top-10 on offense, shooting 51% from the field.
Robert Jones leads Mobile with 20 points and 8 rebounds per contest, while Josh Porter paces the Pilots’ offense with 20 points, and Jamon Morris grabs 10 rebounds per game.
The Pilots hold a 7-2 lead in the all-time series with Mobile and have won 6 in a row, including beating Mobile all three meetings last season and knocking the Rams out of the GCAC Tournament. LSU-S has won their 5 conference games this year by an average of 16 points, while the Rams have beaten their GCAC opponents by an average of 10 points.
