#11 Pilots Sweep Wolfpack

Westwego, La. - The #11 LSUS Pilots baseball team picked up a pair of victories in Sunday's doubleheader at Segnette Field, defeating the Loyola University Wolfpack 11-3 and 11-9 in the first two games of the 2008 season.

In the first game,four LSUS pitchers held the Wolfpack offense to just six hits, while striking out nine batters.  Junior College transfer Cody Lott (1-0) picked up the win in the opener for the Pilots, giving up three hits and allowing one earned run in 5.1 innings of work.

The Pilots were led at the plate by senior Bryan Stebbings led LSUS with three hits, while junior Quentin Shamsabady picked up three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the eighth.

Shamsabady, Josh Todd, Andrew Brouillette and Andrew Blubaugh each had 2 hits in the season opener.

In the second game, the Wolfpack got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, taking an early 2-0 lead.

Following a scoreless second inning, the LSUS offense began to find its stroke, as the Pilots exploded for 11 runs over the next five innings.

Brouillette and Todd each homered in the fourth, while Brandon Bravata doubled and scored on three consecutive at-bats in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Trailing 11-3, the Wolfpack scored six runs in the seventh to get back into the contest. However, Richard Pharr and Justin Ennis provided the Pilots with 2.2 scoreless innings of work out of the bullpen to hold off the Wolfpack and pick up the victory.

For the # 11 Pilots, starter Victor Hernandez (1-0) picked up the win in game two. Hernandez went six innings, striking out six and giving up three earned runs. Ennis struck out three of the four Wolfpack batters he faced to earn the save.

Bravata and Jeffrey Garidel led the Pilots with three hits apiece, while Craig Barnes finished the game 2-for-3 with a team-high three RBIs.

Brouillette, Todd and Shamsabady also added two hits for the Pilots in game two.

LSUS (2-0, 2-0) will be back in action next Friday, as they travel to Mobile to face the Spring Hill Badgers in a three-game series.  Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
