Jacob Roberts

Hometown: Baton Rouge, LA
Major: Biology
Anticipated Graduation Date: Summer 2015

About Jacob:

High school activities that prepared for college challenges:   I was on my high school’s wrestling team for three years. Being part of a team taught me self discipline, which has been very beneficial to my college life. Self discipline helps me stay on task and manage my time, possibly the two most important factors for a successful college career.

My Reason(s) for choosing LSUS:  Although I am from Baton Rouge, LA, I chose LSU Shreveport over LSU Baton Rouge due to the smaller class sizes LSUS offers students. I like that I can get more individual interaction with professors here, which is very helpful when I have questions or comments about lectures or assignments.

Campus resources that have helped him/her get the best education at LSUS:   The two resources I use most often on campus are the Noel Memorial Library and the campus-wide computer lab. The library has a large collection of books and research materials useful for common course assignments, and the special Noel Collection is housed on the third floor. The computer lab is great to use during my breaks to check my e-mail or get started on homework. I can also print there for free, which is helpful when I am doing research.

My favorite LSUS professor is (and why):   My favorite professor is Dr. Banks. He is a biology professor who is very knowledgeable, experienced, and engaging in class. I enjoy going to his class each week and look forward to taking other courses wit him in the future.

My favorite thing about LSUS (and why):   I like that the campus is smaller in size, which makes it easier to find my classes and get from one place on campus to another. I can easily walk across campus in a few short minutes, which is beneficial when I am going from class to class.

My LSUS club / organization memberships include:   I enjoy being a part of the Navigator organization, where I am able to participate in student recruiting and campus events. I also am a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, which has allowed me to meet some great friends and get more involved on campus.

A memorable moment at LSUS:   My most memorable experience at LSUS was pledging for Kappa Sigma. I had a lot of fun during the pledging activities and I was able to meet some great friends in the process. I also like being a part of a large group on campus that is actively involved in student life.

My favorite activity outside of my coursework is:   I enjoy playing paintball and skateboarding during my free time. I recently started skateboarding about six months ago and I have really come to love it. I also plan to participate in a paintball tournament soon with some friends of mine.

My other interests include:   I also like to read, play my guitar, and play on my PlayStation when I have spare time. I especially like reading Dan Brown novels and playing Metal Gear Solid 4.

My career goal(s) are:   I plan to graduate from medical school and join Doctors Without Borders after receiving my degree. I am excited about the prospect of going to third world countries to help those in need of medical attention who do not have the technology and financial means to receive help on their own.

 My LSUS email is:  Robertsj24@lsus.edu

"Best Advice" for a first time FreshmanThe best advice I can give a first time freshman is to study hard and stay caught up in classes. As long as you go to class, keep up with homework and assignments, and study in advance for tests, you will be fine.
