| About Matthew: | High school activities that prepared for college challenges: In high school I was very involved in many different clubs and organizations. I also played baseball in high school. This probably had the greatest impact on me out of all the activities that I participated in. It taught me how if I focus on a goal that means enough to me then I can achieve anything. Factors considered in choosing major or program: My choice of major relied heavily on my father growing up. He's always worked with computers and I've always been interested in them too. He taught me things while he was working and this helped instill in me a sort of passion for it. My Reason(s) for choosing LSUS: The reasons I chose LSUS to continue my education was mostly because it was not a big party school. I really wanted to go to a university that was about education and not just fun. Also, it was in my hometown making it extremely easy to make the transition into college. Campus resources that have helped me get the best education at LSUS: The many campus labs that we have here are really helpful and convenient. I go there often to print out outlines and other materials for class. My favorite LSUS professor is (and why): My favorite professor that I've met since I've been here is Wolfgang Hinck. I met him at a dinner mixer with some of the school's professors. He was really cool and easy to talk to. My favorite thing about LSUS (and why): My favorite thing about LSUS is definitely the people I have met so far. All my friends from high school moved away for college and the people here were extremely friendly and really cool. I have met many people who I'm sure will be lifelong friends. My LSUS club / organization memberships include: I am a member of the Shreveport BCM. It's a Baptist church group that has students from all over Shreveport come to our campus to be a part of it. It is really cool and I am loving everything about it. Also, I have met some incredible people there and made even more friends. A memorable moment at LSUS: My most memorable experience at LSUS so far has got to be my first time to go to the BCM. It was absolutely amazing and it changed my life forever. I will never forget that night. My favorite activity outside of my coursework is: My favorite thing to do outside of school is just hanging out with my friends. It doesn't matter what we do or even if we're just sitting there talking. I just enjoy being around them. My other interests include: I'm an extremely avid Atlanta Braves and New Orleans Saints fan. I love watching them play whenever I can. I enjoy playing golf, tennis, basketball, racquetball, and volleyball. Really anything outside that you might want to do, I would do too. My career goal(s) are: I plan on getting a job as a software or graphic designer. I haven't really decided on one. And I'm not limiting my possible jobs to just those. I will do whatever I am most interested in when it comes to making that decision. My advice for a first time freshman would be to get involved as much as possible. You will really have a lot of fun. It is also a great way to meet new people. The easiest way to succeed in school is to have good relationships with your professors and fellow students. They will be able to help you if you ever find yourself having any difficulty in the classroom. |
