Jessica Powell

Hometown: Shreveport, LA
Major: Early Childhood Ed
Anticipated Graduation Date: May 2013

About Jessica:

High school activities that prepared me for college challenges:   Senior Beta Club

Factors considered in choosing my major/program:   Whether or not I would enjoy what I would be doing everyday of my life.

My reasons for choosing LSUS:   I chose LSUS because it is close to home and the the student to faculty ratio is so low. Coming from a very small school that aspect is very important to me. The academics here are outstanding as well. About eighty percent of out professors have their Ph. D.'s , which means that I would be taught by experts. That is exciting. All in all, LSUS is an amazing school with outstanding academics that feels like home.

Campus resources that have helped you get the best education at LSUS:   Approachable Professors, Computer accessibility, and the Noel Library access.

My favorite LSUS professor is (and why):   So far its a tie between Dr. Sisson and Mr. McCray they both have awesome personalities and are fantastic professors.

My favorite thing about LSUS (and why):   The closeness of the faculty and students because I came from a small town an that is something that I wanted to maintain during my college career.

My LSUS club/organization memberships include:   the Navigator Organization.

A memorable moment at LSUS:   Watching Scott and Matthew being Pied at Fall Fest.

My favorite activity outside of my coursework is:   Spending time with friends and family.

My other interests include:   I love reading, watching movies, and just relaxing.

My career goal(s) are:   graduating from college with my bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, and teaching for at least a year then going back to get my masters.

My LSUS email is: powellj45@lsus.edu

My best advice for a first time freshman is:   Go to class prepared to get your education, but do not stress yourself too much. Stay on top of your homework and try to do your very best. College is different than high school, but you can have amazing experiences if want to have them.
