New Student Orientation

Meet Your Orientation Leaders

Alex Miller

Alex Miller

Hello everyone and welcome to LSUS! My name is Alexandra Miller. I am a senior Community Health major with a concentration in Pre-Physical Therapy. I hope to one day open my own PT clinic somewhere close to home. I am from Jennings, Louisiana and graduated from Notre Dame High School. Also, I am on the women's basketball team here at LSUS. Basketball was a big reason I chose LSUS. I also chose LSUS because of the close-knit relationships that can be formed with the professors because of the 21 to 1 student-teacher ratio. If I could give a piece of advice to incoming freshmen, I would tell them to be as active as possible in extracurricular activities here on campus. We have over 70 organizations and clubs that are open to all students, so get involved! I am so excited that I get to be a part of this amazing and hardworking orientation staff. I cannot wait to meet you all and help you start this crazy and fun journey. Go Pilots!

Austin Simmons

Austin Simmons

My name is Austin Simmons. I have lived in Shreveport/Bossier my entire life. I attended Benton Elementary, Benton Middle, and graduated from Benton High School in 2014. I am a senior majoring in Marketing. My goal for after I graduate is to find a career job in my degree field and continue my education by receiving a Masters in Communication. I love to workout, watch movies, hang out with friends, and grill a mean steak! I chose LSUS because of the family atmosphere that LSUS offers. LSUS has given me the same level of education that a large state school would with a much more personal touch. Going off to college can be a difficult transition, but that transition can be made a lot easier when your school becomes your family! Go Pilots!

Alysia Canon

Alysia Canon

Hi Pilots, my name is Alysia Canon. I hail from the small town of Blanchard, LA with Captain Shreve as my alma mater. Currently, I am a junior majoring in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. I am on track to achieving my dream of becoming a Veterinary Surgeon. LSUS has given me so many outlets and leadership opportunities from being president of Pre-Vet Club and helping Hurricane Harvey victims to Secretary of Phi Mu and helping preemies in need. I chose LSUS because it is a university full of opportunities and I knew they had the tools I needed to succeed. I wish for you to find your niche in our family as I have found mine. Welcome class of 2022!

Meagan Crews

Meagan Crews

Hello, everyone! My name is Meagan Crews. Born and raised here in Shreveport/Bossier area. I am a Parkway High School graduate now majoring in Marketing with a concentration in Advertising and Design. In addition to being an Orientation Leader, here on campus, I stay busy serving as a three-year member of the SGA Senate and assisting with the Miss LSUS pageant. I chose LSUS because it's home. Here, I'm more than a number, and I know my professors genuinely care about me and my education. Go Pilots!

Amber Hayes

Amber Hayes

Hey Pilots, my name is Amber Hayes. I am currently a Sophmore pursuing a Business degree with a concentration in Marketing. I'm originally from Stonewall, Louisiana and I graduated from Benton High school in 2016. One of the key reasons I chose to become a Pilot was that of the feeling I received when I arrived on campus. I visited several other college campuses during my senior year of high school, and yet none of them felt like home. LSUS offers a unique experience you won't find on any other college campus, we encourage unity. There is a strong sense of community located throughout our campus. Our community of students, faculty, and staff do an amazing job of welcoming our new students and inviting them to become a member of the LSUS family. I truly hope you consider becoming a member of our family, and I look forward to getting to know you at Orientation!

Jonah Harrington

Jonah Harrington

My name is Jonah Harrington and I am the youngest of 5 brothers. I grew up in Benton, Louisiana, and I am currently a senior majoring in Petroleum Engineering with aspirations to go to medical school and hopefully become a Surgical Oncologist. My favorite pastime is reading. I graduated from Benton High School in 2014 and my desire to become an Orientation Leader was first sparked when I went through Orientation. I saw how having this knowledge gave you a sense of confidence and direction. Knowledge is power, and I wish to empower you. My favorite part of LSUS is that it helps create within us a determination to dream big and instills the neglected virtue of hard work. That was one of the main reasons for me choosing to attend this university. We are beyond mediocrity. We are leaders. We are family!

Courtney Jackson

Courtney Jackson

Hey, y'all!!! My name is Courtney Jackson and I am a freshman here at LSUS. I am majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration in Journalism. I am from Haughton, Louisiana and I graduated as Valedictorian from Haughton High School in 2017. I chose to attend LSUS because the faculty and staff here genuinely care about you and your education. Upon starting college, I knew I wanted to get involved on campus which is why I decided to join Phi Mu. Through this amazing organization, I have met lifelong friends and helped raise so much money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospital. My favorite thing about LSUS is the immense amount of resources it has to help students succeed, such as the Student Success Center and Online Tutoring. I'm so excited to help all the incoming freshmen start their new journey as LSUS students! Go Pilots!!!

Pearl Merry

Pearl Merry

Hello everyone! My name is Pearl Merry from the "far town" Bossier City, Louisiana. I graduated as Valedictorian at Parkway High School. After a 22-year hiatus, I am proud to say that I am the 2017 Miss LSUS. Also, I am a member of the LSUS cross country team. Currently, I am a freshman majoring in Biochemistry. I aspire to further my education to medical school and become a Pediatrician. I chose to go to LSUS because I know many people who successfully graduated from this campus, and I like how the university truly cares for their students to succeed. I would have to say my favorite things at LSUS are FREE food events, the annual LSUS Color Run, and being able to go out and represent Miss LSUS around the campus. I like to sing and play music, run, read, travel, and of course binge-watching Netflix. Words cannot express how excited I am to be your Orientation Leader! I am here to get you ready to start your college journey without any worries or doubts! I cannot wait to meet you all! Welcome to the Pilot family class of 2022!

Anne Nardo

Anne Nardo

Hi Everyone! My name is Anne Nardo, a sophomore here at LSUS majoring in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Med studies. An interesting fact about me is that I can speak three languages fluently. I lived in the Philippines and moved to Shreveport when I was 12. I attended Parkway High School and graduated in 2016. I chose LSUS because of its prominent sense of community. Everyone from the students to the faculty and staff is treated like family. Most importantly, I chose LSUS because of its vital connection to the medical school in Shreveport. My favorite thing about LSUS would have to be our science department. Every teacher exudes passion and knowledge for the subject that they teach. Yes, they can get challenging, but that makes positive results even more rewarding. Furthermore, they give me confidence in my ability to become your future OB-GYN or family physician (I haven't decided)! I am honored and thrilled to meet you all! Enjoy every bit of the college life, Pilots!

Kirsten Chapman

Kirstin Chapman

5,6,7,8...Hello, my name is Kirstin Chapman! I was born in Ohio and moved to Benton in middle school and went to high school there. I am a senior here at LSUS majoring in Early Childhood Education. I chose LSUS because I did not want to go to a big college or a small college and LSUS is that perfect in-between. I am co-captain of our Golden Illusion Danceline (hence 5,6,7,8 at the beginning), member of LAE-SP, and best of all a 2018-2019 Orientation Leader! I am so excited to show you all the amazing things LSUS has to offer! One of my favorite things about LSUS is its location. In between classes I love to hit up Youree and go shopping! I love it here and I know you will too! Go Pilots!!!
