New Student Orientation

Meet Your Orientation Leaders

Audra Winget

My name is Audra Leigh Winget. I'm 19, and I am a sophomore. I am a Psychology major, and hope to one day get my Master’s degree and open my own practice. For me, getting the opportunity to be an Orientation Leader really is such an honor and really proves to me that when you put your mind to something, you can do it. I am so incredibly excited to start and to get to know everyone through this process, including all of the new students! I am looking forward to experiencing new situations and meeting new people. I am so eager to make new friendships and learn and grow with everyone. We will all get to experience new opportunities together, and I will help you every step of the way!

David Okuampa

I'm David Okuampa from Ghana, West Africa. I have been in the US for 4 years, spending 3 years as an LSUS student majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I am a junior, international student, and I plan on going to medical school. I'm a member of the International Student Association, AED: Pre-Health Honor Society, and I am a senate member of SGA.

I'm honored to be a part of this great team as an Orientation Leader, and I am ready to connect and share my wonderful experiences here at LSUS with not only our incoming students, but our international students as well!

Krisha Aytona

Hello everyone! My name is Krisha Aytona. I am a senior majoring in Community Health - Pre-PT. One super interesting fact about me is I am Filipino. I just moved here a little over 3 years ago and I also have a twin brother. I am absolutely thrilled to be working again with the Orientation team this school year! My experience as an Orientation Leader (OL) last year was filled with so much fun and I truly can't wait to welcome the class of 2020 together with my fellow 2016-2017 Orientation Leaders! What I'm looking forward the most as an OL is new students signing up for their very first class in college. Being able to help them do that is exciting but overwhelming on their part. So, as an OL, I would be the one to make this part of their Orientation as easy as possible. Another part of the Orientation that I'm looking forward the most is the Organization Fair. There are just so many clubs and organizations on campus who are just as excited as the new students to join them. Personally, I think this is a great way to get new students be involved and make their college career more fun! Ultimately, I look forward to welcoming these new students during Orientation. Go Pilots! #PilotProud

James Bohn

My name is James Bohn (l know, but it's b-o-h-n, not b-o-n-d) I'm a sophomore biology student with a premed focus I'm part of the debate team for two years now. I'm vice president of the Student Activities Board, or SAB. In addition, I am a student senator in the Student Government Association and a general member of MAPS, the minority and pre-health specialists. I'm super excited to being your orientation leader, and look forward to guiding y'all through the process of beginning schooling at LSUS!

Megan Birdwell

My name is Megan Birdwell, and I am sophomore at LSUS. I am an English major that aspires to write one day! I can't wait to get even more involved in LSUS by being an Orientation Leader and get to meet all kinds of new people. I love to help people, so I am excited to share all of my experiences of transitioning from high school to college and share them with incoming freshmen. LSUS is such a diverse school that has taught me so much in and out of the classroom. Sharing that with others will be so much fun!

Lance Rich

Hi! My name is Lance Rich, and I'm a senior computer science major studying animation and visual effects. Here at LSUS, I act as the president of the Student Activities Board and the social events coordinator of the debate team. I'm very excited to be an orientation leader because my involvement in both of those organizations as well as many of my other great experiences on this campus stem directly from my experience at student orientation my freshman year. I'm looking forward to being given a chance to provide students with the same amazing opportunities that I was given at student orientation.

ShaVanety Jones

I am ShaVanety Jones, I am a senior psychology major. I plan to make a difference through counseling adolescents and their families. I enjoy reading, writing, and Latin dancing in my spare time. I am honored to have the opportunity to provide guidance and awareness to the incoming Pilots. Five years ago I was an incoming freshman overwhelmed with uncertainty; I look forward to giving students useful college hacks to enhance their experience at LSUS. It is my mission to make each LSUS Pilot feel welcome and comfortable in their new college setting. My number one tip: GET INVOLVED!

Nicholas O'Connor

My name is Nicholas O'Connor, I am from Bossier City, Louisiana. I graduated Parkway High School in the spring of 2014, then I enrolled at LSUS in the fall. I am majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology. After graduation, I plan on going to medical school. I hope to one day become a Family Medicine Doctor.

Something interesting about me is that I enjoy the outdoors. The outdoors is a place for me to enjoy more simple luxuries of life, like fishing. Last summer I went fishing almost every day, it gave me an opportunity to relax and to spend time with my friends.

What being an orientation leader means to me is that I am someone's mentor. I am able to pass on my experiences at LSUS to new students. By sharing my experiences with new students, I hope to start them off on a path to success. I am most excited about telling new students about the great degree programs that LSUS has to offer. In addition to discussing degree programs, I am looking forward to helping students get involved at the University by joining some of the great clubs and societies at LSUS.

Shandrea Lyons

My name is Shandrea Lyons. I am an 18 year old from Monroe, Louisiana. I am currently a sophomore CJ major. I like to dance, run track, play softball, and travel. I'm excited to be an LSUS Orientation Leader because my Orientation Leaders had such a positive and lasting impact on me. I would like to be able to give someone else that same sense of reassurance that I received. The thing that I'm looking forward to the most is simply being able to be there for the incoming students because I feel that that first impression really makes a difference on how your college experience will play out.

Jonah Harrington

My name is Jonah Harrington and I am the youngest of 5 brothers. I am currently a junior majoring in Petroleum Engineering with aspirations to go to medical school and hopefully become a surgical oncologist. My favorite pastime is reading. The books I enjoy reading the most are from the classic Tarzan series, which consist of 24 adventure novels. On another note, I like to think of myself as a chocolate milk connoisseur as well as a pizza pundit. I graduated from Benton High School in 2014 and my desire to become a Freshmen Orientation Leader was first sparked when I went through orientation. I saw how having this knowledge gave you a sense of confidence and direction. Knowledge is power and I wish to empower you. I look forward to helping you face the challenges ahead and watch you sprint past them with the speed of the Olympic sprinter Michael Johnson (gold track cleats not included). LSU Shreveport helps create within us a determination to dream big and instills the neglected virtue of hard work. We are beyond mediocrity. We are leaders. We are family.
