Freshman Orientation

Freshman Orientation FAQ's

WHY SHOULD I ATTEND LSU SHREVEPORT FRESHMAN ORIENTATION?
All incoming LSU Shreveport freshman are required to attend a Freshman Orientation session before they can register for classes. Freshman Orientation provides numerous opportunities to help new freshmen adjust to the college experience. Not only do they interact with other new students, but they also get to meet current students, who "know the ropes.” Students receive individualized assistance with class scheduling, get to know where things are on campus, learn about student life on campus and register for fall classes.

Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. and Freshman Orientation will start at 9 a.m. and lasts until 3:30 p.m. for all Freshman Orientations except the April 12 Orientation.  On April 12, check-in will be at 10:30 a.m. and Freshman Orientation will start at 11 a.m.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is no cost for students to attend.  However, students must register in advance for Freshman Orientation.

HOW DO I REGISTER?
First, students must receive a letter from the Admissions and Records Office informing them they have been admitted to LSU Shreveport.  Once admitted, students are encouraged to register for a Freshman Orientation session by logging into their LSU Shreveport Admissions ePortal account and click on Your Events tab.  Once a student registers for Freshman Orientation, they will be sent an email confirming the session they chose and a reminder email one week before the actual Freshman Orientation session.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO FRESHMAN ORIENTATION?
The Freshman Orientation staff will provide everything a student will need for the day.  However, students need to bring both their student PIN (provided in the acknowledgement letter from the Admissions and Records Office) and a picture ID in order to register.

CAN PARENTS ATTEND FRESHMAN ORIENTATION?
Freshman Orientation is designed for students who have never attended a college or university. However, LSUS recognizes the importance of a support system for students.  There is a Parent Orientation program offered during every Freshman Orientation session designed especially for parents and/or other student supporters.
