FINANCIAL AID ANNOUNCEMENT

NEW FINANCIAL AID APPLICANTS

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov  using LSUS’s school code of 002013 (Allow LSUS five business days to receive the results of your FAFSA.).  Once LSUS receives your FAFSA results, you may login to your myLSUS account to view your status and required documents. 

Checking Your Status and Documents

  • Login to your myLSUS account
  • Go to “FINANCIAL AID”
  • Click on “APPLICATION STATUS”
  • Click on “Fall 2014-Summer 2015” “VIEW STATUS”
  • Red flags will appear for required documents 

Documents can be printed from the LSUS website, www.lsus.edu, click the “QUICK LINKS” drop down box in the top right-hand corner, select “FINANCIAL AID FORMS AND APPLICATIONS”.  Print out the required documents and submit them to the Financial Aid Office. Your financial aid cannot be processed until these documents are received and reviewed.  Additionally, your financial aid cannot be processed until all academic transcripts are on file and evaluated in the Admissions and Records Office. 

Once your financial aid file is complete and evaluated you will be mailed an award letter and your awards will be posted on your myLSUS account.

  • Click on “Fall 2014-Summer 2015” “VIEW AWARD”

Financial Aid Approval

If you want to use your financial aid to pay your tuition and fees you must give electronic approval on your myLSUS account.  Please complete the following steps:

  • Login to your myLSUS account
  • Go to “FINANCIAL AID”
  • Click on “FINANCIAL AID APPROVAL”
  • Under “ACCEPTED” change the “NO” to a “YES” for appropriate semester or term
  • Click on “SAVE CHANGES”
  • Go to “REGISTRATION”
  • Click on “TUITION AND FEES” 
  • If you owe a balance it will be displayed on this screen.

 IF YOU OWE A BALANCE OR DO NOT HAVE FINANCIAL AID ON myLSUS, BE PREPARED TO PAY YOUR TUITION AND FEES.   

Fee Payment Deadlines-Spring 2015

If you do not give your financial aid approval or do not pay any remaining balance you owe, your classes will be dropped; you will have to re-register; and you will be assessed a late fee. 

Financial Aid Refunds

A semester or term is typically 16 weeks in length.  A session occurs within the 16-week semester or term and can vary in length.  Students will be assessed tuition and fees for their enrollment during an entire semester or term, but financial aid cannot be disbursed until the student has completed certain enrollment requirements. 

Financial aid credit balance refunds are processed according to the dates listed below.  You will receive a check or electronic funds transfer approximately five business days after the processing dates listed below:

The census date for a semester or term is typically the 14th class day; the census date for a session varies. 

Registration across different sessions within the semester or term may affect the amount and timing of your refund.  If a student is enrolled in session 1A for 9 hours and session 1B for 3 hours, his Pell Grant will disburse in two payments:  75% after the processing date for session 1A and 25% after the processing date for session 1B. 

State of Louisiana Go Grant funds are disbursed after the census date for the semester or term.  If you are registered in hours for session 1B that makes your enrollment status full-time for the semester or term, you must be enrolled in at least 12 hours on the census date for session 1B or your Go Grant will be reduced or cancelled.  You will owe the university the funds previously advanced based on your enrollment status on the semester or term census date. 

TOPS Students

TOPS recipients must be registered in 12 hours for the semester or term on the census date for the semester or term for the scholarship to disburse.  If your full-time enrollment status (12 or more hours) for the fall semester or term is based on hours in session 1B and you subsequently drop session 1B hours before the census date for session 1B, your TOPS Scholarship for the fall semester or term will be cancelled.  You will owe the University the entire amount of your TOPS scholarship that was credited to you.  Failure to be enrolled in 12 hours on the census dates for the semester or term or session may affect your eligibility to receive a TOPS Scholarship for future semesters.  Please contact us if you have any questions concerning your eligibility.  Remember, the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) is the agency that determines student eligibility for a TOPS Scholarship, not LSUS. 

TOPS recipients who are transferring to LSUS for the spring need to contact the Financial Aid Office in order to insure proper awarding of your TOPS. 

Student Loan Recipients

You must be enrolled in at least six hours for the semester or term for your loans to disburse. 

All student loans are processed at the maximum loan limit and cannot be increased. 

If you cancel or reduce a loan award, you will be able to view the changes on your myLSUS account under “FINANCIAL AID AWARDS”.

Students who cancel or reduce a loan, and now wish to return to maximum loan amount, will not have their requests processed until later in the semester.

If you accept an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan you cannot decline a Subsidized Stafford Loan.  This is because there is no interest on a Subsidized Stafford Loan while you are enrolled in at least six hours during a semester or term.

GRADUATE STUDENTS - You must be registered for six hours of graduate coursework for the semester or term to be eligible for your student loans.  Loans for graduate students not registered in six hours of graduate coursework during the semester or term will be cancelled.

ON-LINE GRADUATE STUDENTS- On-line graduate students are considered part-time if they are enrolled in at least three hours a session.  The loan amount per session is determined by dividing the annual loan limit for a graduate student by six sessions, $20,500 divided by six sessions = $3,417 for four sessions and $3,416 for two sessions.   

 

Bookstore Charges

Students, who have financial aid that is in excess of tuition and fees, may charge their books in the university’s bookstore by using their LSUS student ID card.  Students can charge in the LSUS bookstore beginning two weeks before the first day of class at the start of a semester and continuing until two days before the census date for the semester. 

At the beginning of a session in the middle of a semester (example:  Session 1B or the Second On-line Session), bookstore charges are available for two weeks before the first day of class.  Charges end on the first day of class for the session or term.
