Louisiana State University Shreveport offers a Doctorate in Leadership Studies with concentrations focused on Leadership, Military Leadership, and Law Enforcement Leadership. The Leadership Studies Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) degree is not just for educators; just as a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree is not just for philosophers! The Ed.D. degree is an interdisciplinary terminal degree program with the primary purpose of enhancing leadership potential that supports both professional and personal growth. Conscientious working professionals who seek to advance their roles as leaders in public, non-profit, or corporate organizations, as well as opportunities in industries including healthcare, law enforcement, the military, and higher education, will find this degree supports a critical step in attaining their future goals. The Leadership Studies program fosters scholarly inquiry and a working understanding of critical components of leadership. Providing working professionals with relevant and practical research skills to utilize leadership theories for transformational change, and knowledge to identify and solve problems of practice through collaboration with key stakeholders, the program offers developmental opportunities directly related to professional practice. Candidates will be given the opportunity to develop these attributes through content courses, research courses, and a connection to faculty and the cultivation of personal research


The program, designed to accommodate working adults with other full-time obligations, is fully online and can be completed within as few as three years by taking two intensive courses per semester, year-round for a total of 63 semester hours. Candidates for this type of program are typically working professionals with at least three years of work experience and who also hold a Masters degree from an accredited university. Students take a prescribed set of courses and academic experiences. Recognizing the intensity of doctoral study while supporting both integration and application of content, the program delivers the doctoral courses in a fully online environment. The online courses include engaging video meetings and discussions, forums, guest speakers with expertise in the field, and the opportunity to network with pther students who represent a group of engaged and driven professionals. During the final year of study, students engage in their concentration core courses while also beginning the final group research project or dissertation under the guidance of a leadership studies faculty member.
