Degree Program
Psychology is the scientific study of behavior. The requirements for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology are designed to introduce the student to the broad spectrum of psychologic knowledge and skills, including an early exposure to research methods and statistics.
The psychology major prepares students for entry-level employment and for graduate study in psychology and related fields. Two graduate programs offered at LSUS serve to further prepare students for careers in psychology - The Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and the Specialist in School Psychology.
The table that follows shows a typical 4 year curriculum of 120 total credit hours which completes a major in Psychology. Entering students should try to follow this sequence of courses. Transfer students should try to incorporate the logic of this course sequence into their curriculum sequence as much as possible. Generally, this sequence puts most of the Gen Ed requirements in the first two years, places the psychology courses in the sequence that we would like you to follow, completes almost all your psychology courses before you would apply for admission to graduate school, and leaves electives for near the end after graduate school application is completed.
