Internship and Practicum Sites
All Community Health Majors at LSU Shreveport are required to complete a practicum in an approved setting. This experience provides students with an opportunity to apply health promotion concepts and skills in an applied practical setting under the guidance of a trained professional. Furthermore, the practicum helps the students adapt more readily to the professional roles they are about to assume. The practicum requires 320 documented hours.
When making decisions about the setting for the practicum experience, you should consider which setting is most closely aligned with future professional interests. Consider which setting will provide the most opportunities for developing abilities required of a health educator as well as meeting the objectives of the Health Promotion Practicum listed in the practicum manual. Practicum experiences typically are completed during the final or penultimate semesters.Practicum Manual
