School of Business Scholarships

The School of Business Administration offers over 30 scholarships for students majoring in Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing or General Business Administration. MBA studenwts are also eligible for several of these scholarships. For additional information on School of Business scholarships, contact the Associate Dean's Office. All incoming freshmen should visit the Financial Aid web site to find out which scholarships are available for them. The following scholarships are all subject to annual funding from donors and or investment accounts and may not be available each year. 

American Classified Scholarship in Marketing

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a student within the CBA for completion of academic studies.
  • Award value: $1,000 per academic year ($500/semester)
  • Major: Marketing
  • Number awarded: One per academic year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Junior or Senior Marketing major; (2) minimum 2.8 overall GPA; (3) actively involved in school or community organizations pertaining to marketing.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Maintenance of selection criteria
  • Year Established: 1998

 

Association of Student Accountants (ASA) Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance for tuition and fees for an accounting major in the College of Business Administration at LSUS.
  • Award value: Varied
  • Major: Accounting
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  See Accounting Students Association (ASA) member or sponsor.
  • Recipient Selection: Association of Student Accountants members
  • Retention Criteria: See ASA member or sponsor.
  • Funding Source: Association of Student Accountants 

 

Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to an outstanding Beta Gamma Sigma member to be used in his or her senior or master's level study. Only AACSB-International accredited schools are eligible.
  • Award value: $1000
  • Major: Junior or senior business major or MBA student
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  Any current Beta Gamma Sigma member or student who will be invited to become a member during the upcoming/current spring semester and who will be a degree seeking student during the academic year following the announcement for scholarship applications.
  • Restriction: Recipient must be in the top 8% of the junior class, 10% of the senior class or 12 percent of MBA students
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Committee with input from LSUS BGS sponsor
  • Retention Criteria: Not applicable; may only be awarded once to a given student
  • Funding Source: $500 from Beta Gamma Sigma matched by $500 from CBA

 

Better Business Bureau Serving Central LA and the Ark-La-Tex Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide the opportunity for academically qualified men and women to obtain an MBA degree at LSUS.
    Award value: $800 per year ($400 per fall and spring semesters). The amount may be increased in the future.
    Major: MBA
    Number awarded: Two per year/one at the beginning of the spring term and one at the beginning of the fall term.
    Selection Criteria:  MBA student with a GPA of 3.0
    Restriction: No award during the summer term
    Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Committee
    Retention Criteria: Maintain a 3.0 GPA in the MBA program
    Funding Source: Endowment created by a gift from the Shreveport Better Business Bureau. Special gifts for immediate use may be made by donor to supplement earnings.

 

CBA Part-Time Student Scholarship

  • Purpose: To assist a part-time CBA undergraduate student with his/her education
  • Award value: Varies as funds are available
  • Major: any CBA undergraduate
  • Number awarded: One per year as funds are available. Note: Funds are currently unavailable.
  • Selection Criteria:  Must be enrolled in at least 6 but no more than 9 hours in the semester in which the scholarship is awarded. Other criteria to be determined.
  • Restriction: Awarded only once per student
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Committee
  • Funding Source: CBA Alumni and Friends donations

 

Cole, Evans & Peterson Accounting Scholarships

  • Purpose: To financially aid CBA students pursuing a degree in Accounting.
  • Award value: $2,000 per academic year ($1,000/semester) each
  • Major: Accounting
  • Number awarded: Two per year (One to a Junior and the other to a Senior)
  • Selection Criteria:  One must be a Junior and the other a Senior; both must be Accounting Majors and full-time students (minimum 12 hours); students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Accounting Faculty; approved by the Dean.

 

Donna Tanner/Executive Women's International Scholarship

  • Purpose: To financially aid an outstanding junior level CBA student to continue his/her academic career.
  • Award value: $500/semester
  • Major: Any CBA undergraduate
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  Outstanding junior in the CBA; 3.0 or higher overall GPA. Preference will be given to a full-time student. If no full-time student meets the criteria, a part-time student taking a minimum of six credit hours may be considered.
  • Restriction: Preference will be given to a student who will not be receiving another scholarship administered concurrently by LSUS. For this award, "scholarship" does not include TOPS or other state and/or federal financial aid.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Student must remain enrolled at LSUS to receive the award for the second semester.
  • Funding Source: EWI Shreveport-Bossier City Chapter

 

Helen and Frank Katzenstein Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose: To aid and assist a deserving CBA junior or senior or an MBA student at LSUS who graduated from a Louisiana High School.
  • Award value: $1,000 per academic year ($500/semester)
  • Major: Any CBA undergraduate or MBA student
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Full-time student; (2) junior or senior CBA or MBA student; and (3) 3.0 GPA for undergraduates and 3.25 for MBA students.
  • Restriction: No award during the summer term
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Undergraduate students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0; MBA students must maintain a 3.25 GPA.
  • Funding Source: Endowment

 

Insurance Professionals of Shreveport/Bossier Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a deserving student that meets the criteria and allows him/her to complete an academic career.
  • Award value: $500 per year ($250/semester)
  • Major: Any CBA undergraduate major
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Should be at least a 2nd year student; (2) must have at least a 20 composite ACT score (for entering freshmen); (3) must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on any university work completed prior to receiving the award; (4) must be enrolled in the CBA at LSUS; (5) must be of good character; (6) must show evidence of academic excellence; (7) must be interested in pursuing a career in Insurance; (8) must be pursuing one of the following majors: Accounting, Finance, General Business, Management, or Marketing.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Must maintain the 2.5 GPA after scholarship selection
  • Funding Source: Shreveport/Bossier Association of Insurance Profesionals Endowment

 

Jim Leslie Memorial Scholarship

  • Purpose: The Shreveport-Bossier Advertising Federation awards the scholarship for undergraduate students in communications-related curricula.
  • Award value: $1,100 for 2008/2009
  • Major: Marketing, Journalism, Radio and TV, Graphic Design, Advertising, Communications, Photography, and PR
  • Number awarded: 1 per year
  • Selection Criteria:  Have an overall GPA of 2.5 and Major GPA of 3.0. Have earned at least 72 hours toward the completion of the communications-related degree. (Non-credit hours are not applicable.) Established financial need through the Financial Aid Office.
  • Restriction: Must be an undergraduate; Can only be awarded to a student one time. Submit application to Mr. Larry Farley, Larry Farley & Associates, Celt Center Suite 474, 2800 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA 71104. Applications can be downloaded from: www.sbaf.org.
  • Recipient Selection: Meets GPA requirements, submits letters of recommendation from at least one faculty member (and not more than 5) in the student's major, letter of recommendation from a church or service-related organization leader, and an optional letter from the dean.
  • Funding Source: Shreveport-Bossier Advertising Federation

 

John and Joanna Magale Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose: To support students 25 years of age or younger who are not otherwise eligible for TOPS.
  • Award value: $500 per semester
  • Major: Any business major
  • Number awarded: One
  • Selection Criteria:  Eligible students will be those who are 25 years or younger in age. Recipients will be those who are not otherwise eligible for TOPS. Recipients may be freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors and may be either full-time or part-time.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Students must successfully complete at least 12 credit hours (full-time) or 6 credit hours (part-time) and maintain a 2.5 overall GPA once awarded the scholarship.
  • Funding Source: Magale Endowment

 

John M. Easom Fast Tax Scholarship in Accounting or Finance

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a CBA student in honor of John M. Easom, a 1988 LSUS graduate in Accounting.
  • Award value: $1,500 per year
  • Major: Accounting or Finance
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) GPA of 2.5 or better; (2) ACT score of 26 or better (for students entering LSUS as freshmen); (3) must carry at least 12 hours, fall and spring semesters; (4) must show financial need with household income not to exceed $75,000. Household income must be certified by a statement on the completed scholarship application.
  • Restriction: Household income must not exceed $75,000.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Must maintain Preferred Selection criteria.
  • Funding Source: Shareholders of Fast Tax Service, Inc.

 

KPMG Accounting Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to students currently enrolled in the CBA as an Accounting major.
  • Award value: To be determined
  • Major: Accounting
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Must have completed 93 semester hours by the beginning of the semester for which the scholarship is to be awarded; (2) must have been a full-time student (12 semester hours) for the two preceding semesters at LSUS; (3) must have completed at least four accounting courses; the current semester's work may be counted if needed; (4) each recipient must be at least a Junior; (5) decisions based on: 1/3 weight to overall GPA, 1/3 weight to Accounting GPA, 1/6 weight to class participation; 1/6 weight to outside activities (employment, college, and community).
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee; approved by KPMG representative serving on the CBA Board of Visitors or the LSUS Foundation Board.
  • Retention Criteria: Must continue in the Accounting major; must maintain a 3.0 overall GPA.
  • Funding Source: KPMG Endowment Fund plus KPMG employees/partners supplement.

 

LSUS Alumni Business Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose: To reward and encourage a junior or senior level student in the College of Business Administration at LSUS to complete his/her education at LSUS.
  • Award value: $1000/year ($500/semester)
  • Major: Any CBA undergraduate
  • Number awarded: One per academic year
  • Selection Criteria:  Must be a junior or senior in the CBA; must be a full-time student; must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: A student cannot retain the scholarship beyond one year.
  • Funding Source: LSUS Alumni Association

 

MBA Student Scholarship

  • Purpose: To assist a qualified MBA student in completing his or her education.
  • Award value: Varies; $250-$500 per semester if funds are available
  • Major: MBA
  • Number awarded: One per semester as funds are available
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Be enrolled in at least 3 hours of MBA courses above the foundation (2) Have GPA of 3.4 or higher (3) Demonstrate financial need. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) should be filed electronically. (See instructions in COMPASS.) (4) Not receiving tuition reimbursement by employer.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Committee
  • Retention Criteria: To obtain the scholarship an additional semester, the student must maintain 3.4 GPA and be enrolled in graduate courses.
  • Funding Source: Donations from CBA alumni and friends

 

Northwest LA Society for Human Resource Management Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance either partial or full in paying student's summer school tuition.
  • Award value: $1,000 for the spring semester
  • Major: Management
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) GPA of 3.0 or greater in their major of Management; (2) overall GPA of 2.5 or greater; (3) earned 60 hours or more of college level credit; (4) strong desire to pursue a career in HRM. Special consideration will be given to current members of the LSUS chapter of SHRM.  (4) unofficial transcript (5) Essay answering "When you consider the future of HUMAN RESOURCE Managers in the workplace, what do you consider to be the MOST important and significant function of the HR professional?"
  • Recipient Selection: Selection committee to be composed of the Board of the NW LA Chapter of SHRM (Shreveport-Bossier).
  • Retention Criteria: Student's GPA may not fall below 2.5.
  • Funding Source: NW LA Chapter for SHRM

Peggy and Aaron Selber, Jr. Scholarship

  • Purpose: To assist a non-traditional CBA student in earning an undergraduate degree.
  • Award value: $1,500/year for a full-time student; $750/year for a part-time student.
  • Major: Any CBA undergraduate.
  • Number awarded: One full-time or two part-time each year.
  • Selection Criteria:  Current resident of the Shreveport/Bossier Metropolitan area, superior high school record, outstanding college record, or special overall lifetime achievement. Student must be pursuing an undergraduate degree.
  • Restriction: Candidate should be 35 year or older in age.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee.
  • Retention Criteria: Successfully complete at least 12 credit hours (full-time) or 6 credit hours (part-time) and maintain 3.0 overall GPA once awarded scholarship.

 

Phillip D. Nimmo Fast Tax Scholarship in Accounting or Finance

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a CBA student in honor of Phillip D. Nimmo, a 1991 LSUS graduate in Accounting.
  • Award value: $1,500 per year
  • Major: Accounting or Finance
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) GPA over 2.25 and under 3.4; (2) ACT score of 18 or better (for students entering LSUS as freshmen); (3) Must carry at least 12 hours (be full-time); (4) Must be an Accounting or Finance Major; (5) Must work at least 20 hours/week, year-round; (6) must show financial need with household income not to exceed $75,000. Household income and employment must be certified by a statement on the completed scholarship application.
  • Restriction: Household income must not exceed $75,000.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee.
  • Retention Criteria: Maintain criteria in Preferred Selection.
  • Funding Source: Shareholders of Fast Tax Service, Inc.

 

Re/Max Executive Realty Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a deserving CBA student to promote the completion of his/her academic career.
  • Award value: $1,000 per year (or $500/semester)
  • Major: Finance or Marketing
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Must be a Junior or Senior in the CBA; (2) must have a 3.0 or better GPA; (3) must be a Finance or Marketing major.
  • Restriction: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Recipient Selection: Maintain 3.0 GPA
  • Funding Source: Re/Max Endowed Fund

 

Roddy Spigener Scholarship

  • Purpose: To financially aid a student interested in pursuing a law or business degree. The scholarship was created as a lasting tribute in memory of Roderick W. "Roddy" Spigener, through contributions from caring and loving friends and family. Roddy exhibited an appreciation for the individuality and potential of those with whom he interacted both in his professional and personal lives. The individual receiving this scholarship will have the occasion in his/her professional career to encounter individuals whose personal beliefs, lifestyle or ambitions are different from his/her own. The donors desire to select an individual whose personal andprofessional ethics lend themselves to assisting individuals on a fair and unbiased basis regardless of age, race, sex, religion, natural origin, sexual orientation, sexual preference, military status or any other criteria that does not consider the overall characteristics of the individual.
  • Award value: $250 per semester
  • Major: Interest in attending law school or business major
  • Number awarded: One
  • Selection Criteria:  Recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. He/she must have demonstrated interest in attending law school which should include taking or having taken the following courses: POLI 211 (Judicial Process), POLI 411 (Constitutional Law) and CJ (Criminal Law). If there is no qualified candidate based on the above criteria, then a student in the College of Business will be chosen.
  • Restriction: Recipient must sign statement concerning purpose of the scholarship.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Committee when in Business
  • Retention Criteria: The recipient will receive the scholarship for the Spring semester immediately following the Fall semester they were awarded the scholarship, provided they maintain a 3.0 GPA. (Exceptions to the retention criteria can be made by the person who established the scholarship.)

 

S. Berton Heard Endowed Scholarships in Accounting

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance toward tuition and fees for enrollment in the CBA; recipients to be known as Heard Scholars.
  • Award value: $2,000 per academic year
  • Major: Accounting preferred
  • Number awarded: Usually two per year, as determined annually guided by amount of funding from trust income.
  • Selection Criteria:  If an incoming freshman: (1) must have an overall ACT score of at least 25, and (2) must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0. If a continuing student or transfer student: (1) must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA. In both categories, special consideration may be given to a minority candidate showing strong academic promise. Preference will be given to accounting majors.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee with representative from Accounting Department
  • Retention Criteria: Must maintain 3.0 overall college GPA.

 

Samuel E. Smith Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a student enrolled in the CBA for a continued academic career.
  • Award value: $1,000 per year ($500/semester)
  • Major: Any CBA
  • Number awarded: To be determined by funds available for disbursement; usually one per year.
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Must have at least a 20 composite score on the ACT exam; (2) must have at least a 2.5 overall GPA in high school, based on a 4.0 scale; (3) if earning university credit, must have a 2.5 overall GPA in college courses.
  • Restriction: Must be enrolled in the CBA for the semester prior to applying for scholarship. Must have submitted scholarship application to the Dean of the CBA by the appropriate deadline.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: (1) Must continue enrollment as a full-time student in the CBA at LSUS; (2) must maintain a minimum 2.5 overall GPA and a 3.0 GPA in major for each semester the scholarship is awarded.
  • Funding Source: Samuel E. Smith Memorial Fund

 

Shelia Herring Chumley Scholarship in Accounting

  • Purpose: To assist students with proven financial need to prepare for a profession in the business community.
  • Award value: $1,500 per semester
  • Major: Accounting major preferred; limited to undergraduate students.
  • Number awarded: One per semester
  • Selection Criteria:  Recipients must be enrolled in the CBA with preference given to an accounting major. The recipient must be enrolled for at least 12 hours at LSUS and have earned at least a 2.75 LSUS cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to single parents with proven financial need.
  • Restriction: Award can be used for fall and spring semesters only. The recipient may not be receiving another LSUS scholarship. This award will not be affected by receipt of Title IV Federal Student Aid or other awards/scholarships received from private donors not affiliated with LSUS or LA.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee. Students may apply directly to the CBA or may be nominated by faculty or staff.
  • Retention Criteria: The recipient must enroll for at least 12 credit hours at LSUS during each of the two awarded semesters, maintain at least a 2.75 overall GPA, and pass 12 hours for the fall semester to retain the award for the second semester.
  • Funding Source: Delbert Chumley, retired Accounting Professor, in honor of his wife, Sheilia Herring Chumley.

 

Shreveport Women's Business Council Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a working non-traditional female 30 to 50 years of age.
  • Award value: $750 year ($375/semester)
  • Major: Any CBA undergraduate major
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Should be between 30 and 50 years of age; (2) should be a full or part-time female student; (3) should demonstrate financial need; (4) first time undergraduate student; (5) GPA of 2.5 or better
  • Restriction: MUST BE able to attend the Fall Women's Business Council Luncheon
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Must maintain GPA of 2.5 or better 

 

South Shreveport Rotary Charles Vestal Memorial Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a deserving student within the CBA, who can provide documentation of financial need for completing his/her academic career; provided in honor of Charles Vestal.
  • Award value: $1,600 per year ($800/semester)
  • Major: Any CBA undergraduate or graduate major.
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) must be a CBA student; (2) must be financially responsible for himself/herself and must provide a statement of need; (3) minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate and 3.0 for graduate student; (4) can be awarded to any level student in the CBA. The student currently holding the scholarship will be given first consideration for the next year.
  • Restriction: (1) Student is expected to make a short address to the South Shreveport Rotary Club at least four weeks after the notification of selection; (2) the student is encouraged, not required, to attend the monthly meetings of the South Shreveport Rotary Club.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee and approved by a member of the South Shreveport Rotary Club.
    Retention Criteria: Must maintain a 2.5 undergraduate or 3.0 graduate GPA

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a deserving CBA student who can provide proof of financial need to complete his/her academic career.Award value: $1,000 per year ($500/semester)
  • Major: Any CBA undergraduate or MBA
  • Number awarded: One per year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) must be a CBA student; (2) must be financially responsible for himself/herself and must provide a statement of need; (3) minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate and 3.0 for graduate student; (4) can be awarded to any level student in the CBA. The student currently holding the scholarship will be given first consideration for the next year.
  • Restriction: (1) Student is expected to make a short address to the South Shreveport Rotary Club at least four weeks after the notification of selection; (2) student is encouraged to attend the monthly meetings of the South Shreveport Rotary Club; however, this is not required.

  • Retention Criteria: Student must maintain GPA of 2.5 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate). 

 

Traffic and Transportation Endowed Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a deserving CBA student who can provide proof of financial need to complete academic studies.
  • Award value: $500 per semester
  • Major: Any CBA
  • Number awarded: One per academic year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Must be enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a career in business; (2) must show proof of financial need to complete education; (3) must have a 3.0 high school overall GPA or during prior semesters at LSUS.
  • Restriction: Maximum of eight semesters.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 at the end of the semester.

 

Travis A. White Endowed Scholarship in Finance

  • Purpose: To assist a deserving student in the CBA to promote the completion of his/her academic career.
  • Award value: $1,000 per academic year ($500 per semester)
  • Major: Finance
  • Number awarded: One per academic year
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) Recipient must be a full-time student; (2) entering his/her junior year; (3) Finance major; (4) overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Restriction: May be awarded on a two-year basis.
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee.
  • Retention Criteria: Must complete his/her first scholarship year with a 3.0 GPA.
  • Funding Source: Travis White Endowment Fund

 

U.L Coleman Real Estate Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a deserving School of Business student who is interested in a career in a professional real estate field or related area.
  • Award value: $1000 per semester
  • Major: Finance
  • Number awarded: One per year; may be awarded a second semester in a year subject to applicant qualifications and fund availability
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) must be a Finance major; (2) must be interested in a possible career in real estate; (3) must have completed a minimum of 60 hours; and (4) must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Restriction: Must apply for the scholarship through the CBA Dean's Office
  • Recipient Selection: CBA Scholarship Selection Committee
  • Retention Criteria: Must maintain 3.0 GPA
  • Funding Source: U. L. Coleman Companies

 

Women's Council of Realtors Scholarship

  • Purpose: To provide financial assistance to a deserving full- or part-time School of Business student.
  • Award value: $500 (semester) if funds are available
  • Number awarded: One or two per year - pending funds
  • Selection Criteria:  (1) preference given to Financial Services majors; (2) interested in a possible career in Real Estate or related area; (3) must have completed a minimum of 60 hours;  (5) must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA, 3.0 preferred.
  • Restriction: Must apply for the scholarship through the Dean's Office in the School of Business.
