Economics & Finance Department

Degree Programs

Finance teaches the techniques that managers use to make and evaluate all types of organizational decisions. Majors in Finance take introductory courses in business finance, investments, insurance, and real estate. Finance majors choose one of two concentrations: 

  • Financial Analysis: The Financial Analysis concentration emphasizes quantitative skills and helps students to prepare for careers in areas such as securities analysis, financial research, banking, and corporate finance. Financial Analysis provides a solid background for further studies at the graduate level.
  • Financial Services: Financial Services is designed to introduce the student to financial planning, insurance sales and underwriting, commercial and residential real estate sales and development, real estate lending, real estate appraisal, and real estate counseling.

General Business Administration
Students choose General Business Administration as a major because it provides maximum flexibility to acquire knowledge from all fields of business, including accounting, business law, management and marketing. Many of these majors are preparing for multipurpose management roles in small organizations or as entrepreneurs.

Economics Minor
The student interested in an Economics minor should complete required courses in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics plus 12 additional hours of economics at the 300+ level.
