School of Humanities and Social Sciences Scholarships

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a variety of scholarships for our students based on their major. All of our scholarships are awarded on an annual basis (fall and spring semesters). The deadline to apply for scholarships to be awarded for the next academic year is mid-April of each year. Occasionally a scholarship will become available mid academic year due to the current scholarship recipient losing their eligibility.  APPLY ONLINE NOW!  Application Deadline:  Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

John and Joanna Magale Endowed Scholarship
• The recipient must be age 25 or younger, not eligible for TOPS, and enrolled in a program in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
• The recipient must complete at least six credit hours each semester and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.5.
• Amount to be awarded: $500 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

LSUS Alumni Liberal Arts Scholarship
• The recipient must be enrolled full time in a program in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and must have earned a total of at least 60 semester hours with a GPA of 2.5.
• Consideration will be given to academic performance, financial need, and extra curricular activities.
• The recipient must not be receiving any other type of grant or scholarship regardless of funding source.
• Amount to be awarded: $500 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

Walter O. Bigby Scholarship
• The recipient must be majoring in English or History, and must have earned a total of at least 45 semester hours but fewer than 90 with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and an LSUS GPA of 3.0 or higher. Financial need may also be considered.
• The recipient must enroll in both the fall and spring semesters and must complete at least 15 hours.
• Amount to be awarded: $500 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

Milton Finley Scholarship
• The recipient must be a full time student majoring in History, Criminal Justice, or Sociology.
• Consideration will be given to academic performance, character, and financial need.  Must include two letters of recommendation.
• Amount to be awarded: $500 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

H.F. Sockrider, Jr. Scholarship
• The recipient must have earned a total of at least 60 semester hours with an overall GPA of 3.2.
• The recipient must take LSAT and plan to go to law school.
• Amount to be awarded: $250 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

Eric J. Brock Memorial Endowed Scholarship
• The recipient must be a full-time student with at least 60 hours majoring in History, Sociology, or Criminal Justice, with a 3.0 GPA.
• All applicants must submit a scholarly research paper to Dr. Gary Joiner. 
• Amount to be awarded: $200 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

Roderick W. Spigener Scholarship
• The recipient must have a demonstrated interest in attending law school.  
• The recipient must take POLI 211, POLI 411, and CJ 453.  
• The recipient must have an overall GPA of 3.0. 
• The amount to be awarded:  $500 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

Norman A. Dolch Scholarship
• The recipient must be a full-time student and a member of the Nonprofit Administration Student Association seeking certification, with an overall GPA of 3.0.
• The recipient must have a record of volunteer service.
• Amount to be awarded: $250 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

Cory Katherine Hiers MLA Endowed Scholarship
• The recipient must be a fully-admitted student in the M.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences Program with a graduate GPA of 3.5 or better.
• Amount to be awarded: $400 per year (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

MSHSA (Huie-Dellmon) Scholarship
• The recipient must be a graduate student admitted to the M.S. in Nonprofit Administration Program.
• Amount to be awarded: $280 per semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)

Allena J. Longfellow Scholarship
• The recipient must be a graduate student in the M.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences Program with a graduate GPA of 3.5 or better.
• The recipient must be fully admitted to the M.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences Program
• The recipient must have completed at least one core course
• Amount to be awarded: $400 annually, each spring semester (may be increased or decreased depending on available funds)
