Thinking about coming back to college to finish a degree? Check out our new, accelerated format  Online BA in Mass Communication!

Students preferring the on-campus or traditional full-semester online degree programs have plenty of options:

The Department of Arts and Media at LSU Shreveport offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Digital Arts with courses ranging from photography to illustration to 2-D and 3-D animation.  The department has a wide range of facilities including Mac labs, PC labs, a specialized darkroom, fine arts classrooms for drawing and painting, and SmartRooms for lecture-style courses.  Most faculty hold the MFA degree and are active in their respective fields.

In Mass Communication, students may choose to specialize in print journalism, electronic media, or public relations.  The curriculum is built on classes that provide a thorough grounding in the basics of each specialty at the freshman and sophomore levels plus challenging upper-level courses reflecting the current professional job market. Upper-level students are encouraged to elect internships.  All students complete a professional portfolio prior to graduation.

Students interested in electronic news delivery in may publish in the Almagest/student news.    For print journalism students interested in feature and investigative work, Almagest: The Magazine, is published with contributions and editorial work by majors enrolled in the journalism lab.

The department provides recognition for outstanding student scholarship with a chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, and the Mass Communication Scholars recognition.  Scholars and new members of Lambda Pi Eta are named during the fall and spring semesters.  Students studying public relations are encouraged to join PRSO, the Public Relations Student Organization, which is affiliated with the Public Relations Association of Louisiana.
