Science Graduates

Marie Vazquez Morgan, PT, Ph.D.

What I do now:
I am an associate professor in the Department of Rehab Sciences Program in Physical Therapy at LSU Health Shreveport.

My work/job consists of:
Teaching students, clinical research and patient care

Path to my current career position (how I got from the past to the present):
I went to LSUS to obtain my BS in psychology, thinking I was going to go that route; however, I found that Shreveport had a PT program and I applied and was accepted.

How I got to LSUS (or why I chose LSUS):
I chose LSUS due to its rigorous science program.

Fond memories of LSUS:
I was a soloist on campus with the Christian group I was affiliated with. I enjoyed it a great deal.

LSUS faculty who helped me:
Dr. Jean Hollenshead

How LSUS helped me succeed:
By having caring instructors knowledgeable in their fields

Advice to college-bound students:
Choose a school that is known to have strengths in the areas you are trying to excel in. I tell potential PT students the same thing.

Advice to someone who wants to enter my field:
We are a science-based program and look at Math Science GPA a great deal. I encourage students to do well in those courses in order to be competitive.

Tips on choosing a major or career:
Choose something that you will love, so it will not feel like work.

My toughest professional challenge:
Finishing my PhD while I had a young daughter.

My toughest personal challenge:
My divorce
