The McDowell Family: Megan, Chad, Molly, Jennifer, and Martin
On July 1, 2016, Chad assumed a new position as Superintendent of Calvary Baptist Academy, a K-12 school in Shreveport which is affiliated with Calvary Baptist Church. In this role, he supervises academic, extracurricular and athletic activities at the school.
Chad received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Secondary Health and Physical Education in 1996 from LSU Shreveport. He was a member of the first-ever Pilots basketball team and played for four years, making his mark in the basketball record book as a feisty point guard and team leader.
After graduation, he held coaching stints at Southwood High School and C.E. Byrd High School, both in Shreveport. Chad returned to LSUS to become the men's Head Basketball coach in 2003. His first team posted a won-lost record of 21-12 and his teams never had fewer than 21 wins in his nine seasons at the helm, amassing an overall records of 239 wins and 66 losses, four conference championships, severn conference tournament championships, and eight consecutive trips to the NAIA National Basketball Tournament. He was Gulf Coach Athletic Conference Coah of the Year four times, Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches Coach of the Year seven times, and Louisiana Sports Writers Coach of the Year once.
Chad said of his stint as a basketball coach and his years at LSUS: "I have the absolute best job in the world! I love everything about it and wouldn't trade positions with anyone. There is always something good going on and I get to work with some great student-athletes on a daily basis. LSUS gave me an opportunity to do what I loved - play basketball. While playing basketball at LSUS during the late 90s, LSUS gave me a first-class education and prepared me for the working world. I attribute so much of my success to great players but, more importantly, I give a lot of credit to the best wife in the world, Jennifer Young McDowell. Without LSUS, Jennifer and I would have not met and we wouldn't have the family we have today. So LSUS has done a lot to help me succeed and provided me with a great job doing what I love-coaching student-athletes in the game of basketball and, more importantly, the game of life," said McDowell. Chad and Jennifer have three children - Martin, Meagan and Molly.
From 2012-2016 Chad served as Athletic Director at LSUS and had a successful run in guiding coaches and athletes. While coaching and administering the athletic program, he also managed to obtain his Master of Education degree, including a certification in Educational Leadership.
